If the gear is not split, I've had some luck using Loc-Tite Red 271 to keep loose gear in place on the shaft. While the gear is out of place, put a drop of Loc-Tite on the shaft and slide the gear back into place. I normally let it set for 24 hours before trying to operate the loco again. Loc-Tite Blue 242, which isn't quite as strong as the Red, may also work if the loco and your trains aren't too heavy. But I've had it come loose under load on completely smoot shafts.

Looking at the exploded diagrams it appears the smoke box area of both versions of the K4 is already filled with weight. If the loco is jumping to switch frogs, more than likely the flangeway needs to be deepened. This is fairly easy to do with the edge of a jewelers flat file. Vacumn up the filings before running trains though.

If you're comfortable doing your own soldering, and understand using dropping resistors with LEDs, it's a lot cheaper to do it yourself. You also have a bit more flexibility in which LEDs to use, e.g., yellow for an incandescent bulb look, white for situations where fluorescent tubes would be used.

Krylon clear matte finish in a spray can works well. And you get almost 3 times as much for less than a can of Dullcote sold for.

Be advised that when operated with a DC power pack the decoder will "eat" around 5 volts before the loco starts moving. So the throttle position will be higher than with a straight DC loco. If the rest of your locos are straight DC, you might want to replace the decoder with a dummy plug if it's connected via an 8-pin sockt.
