The resister can be attached to either the anode (+) or the cathode (-) and it limits the current and keeps the LED from blowing out. I myself always attach the resister to the anode (long  lead) but can verify it works on the short lead too.  Wink

The length of the track should not make any real difference. Did you unplug/re-plug the hand control cable? Maybe it was making a poor connection when you experienced your problems.  Huh? Glad it was not your motive power.

I have Bachmann 10 Wheelers and the Rail truck and mine both will run fine with any setting on the USAT power pack. Setting it to a lower scale only seems to lower the max output voltage. My motive power runs well with any waveform setting.  Undecided

BTW, I took my Train Power 10 out of service and replaced it with a Bidgewerks system and then an Aristo TE system because I wanted radio control and the sound system in my Aristo 0-4-0 wouldn't work correctly on linear DC. It needs PWC (Greg clued me into that  Grin).

Sorry to hear the 4-6-0 problem persists.  Embarrassed

Is this the power supply that is giving you problems?

If so, I have one too that gave me weird problems. It turned out to be the hand control cable! It is a telephone cable, so I went to my local Radio Shack with it and purchased another cable. Viola! It worked as advertised. This may or may not be YOUR problem, but it's worth a try.  Wink

If I were you I would back away from this "genius" as he is wrong. See if you can find the article he got his info from so we can debunk it!  Undecided

Hello Bachmann man,
I have been searching e-bay for months now for a Purdee & Curtin Lumber caboose to go with my shay engine. I found 1 caboose on e-bay lately but it is missing its roof, Can this be replaced as a part? I can buy a simular caboose with different road name fairly inexpensively if the roof is able to be removed and replaced without damaging it in the process. Appreciate any knowledge on this subject. Why are these road names so hard to find lately? Seems that I have found every road but Purdee & Curtin, go figure right!

Dan here is a more reasonable candidate for the roof from eBay...

One thing you should do is "Strapping" the motor.  Send me an email and I'll send you a copy of the instructions.  What it does is hold the motor in place so it doesn't chew up the gears.  Other wise a pretty good drive.

Barry - BBT
I know it's a long shot since this listing is so old, but will someone please post the instructions you mentioned for strapping the motor? Thank you.
