that commercial MIGHT have been a bit misleading

Yep, a large part of what advertising is all about... ;)

No one said anything about telling "Newbies"  (I strongly dislike that term btw) to go away ??? ::)  Again with the melodrama...

-Have you not read here, the multitude of posts where people whine about certain locos no longer being produced?  And the subsequent response from the Overlords to the effect that "there are no plans at this time" to produce them?  What might that tell you?

-Of course, no doubt new people entering the hobby is a good thing, but what do the numbers show for model trains?

-Don't be sorry you said anything; you're free to say whatever you want.  I am sure you will regardless.

-No one said you offended anyone.

Maybe the Bachmann Overlords can tell you how many new folks in the hobby it takes for them to warrant an increase in production?  While they are at it, maybe they can tell us how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop...

HUZZAH! More people starting in the hobby! That means manufacturers will have to make more stuff!

Really?!?  How many more new hobbyists do you think it takes before a manufacturer can justify ramping up their production?

General Discussion / Re: Bachmann Ballast Spreader

...snaping together EZ track is easi and faster than using flex or sectional track and roadbed though your are paying a price for the convenience ballasting is not required but IMHO makes the track look better.

It was more a rhetorical question Joe.  I understand, thanks, that EZ Track, as its name belies, is easier bc it snaps together; I've said here before, that I have some for when I set up my Christmas Tree.  And IMHO as well, I believe non roadbed track placed on cork roadbed looks infinitely better.  But my question still stands, underscored further by your so aptly pointing out the added cost of EZ Track.

And here is an additional (practical) question; If you ballast EZ Track and DO NOT solder the joiners and then ballast, does not the glue get into the joiners and create continuity problems?   And if you solder the joiners, what was the point in buying the EZ Track in the first place?

Is everything prototypical on the SIW, Joe?

Obviously not

Thanks, didn't think so.

Begs a question; if the plan is to ballast, why bother using EZ track ???

I guess we all have crosses to bear.

Why limit yourself to this being your "last" DCC question ??? ::)

I will never EVER buy a damned thing from MRC again

That's too bad, bc they make the best DC controllers out there.

Ever think of toning down the drama?

And lots of people use Kapton tape to secure their decoders wires etc; better than using gooey electrical tape and it does not trap heat like electrical tape will.

Check the wheels on the locos; they dirty?

General Discussion / Re: Lubricate train and tracks

Wahl clipper oil can/is used to clean the track.  Works well for that purpose if done properly.  I like to place/rub the rail with some on a cosmetic q tip (not your standard "Q-Tip").  You can see what comes off the rails, on the q tip, then rub/clean off the rails with a rag if you desire; as long as there are no puddles of oil, things will work fine.

For lubing locos; oil on metal parts like motor shafts and bearings and grease for gears.  There are TONS of hobby oils out there and any grease rated for PTFE will due.

Coop, do you know how to get the shell off of your loco?
