On30 / 2-6-6-2 Won’t Run
March 15, 2023, 06:11:30 PM
I picked up the 2-6-6-2 in a bundle deal. The headlines are functional and directional. I replaced the decoder with the supplied dummy plugs and still no movement. The multimeter verified power at the dummy plugs. Next step is to check the 4 pin connector located beneath the cab. How does one remove the cab and boiler so I can continue checking for power all the way to the motor?

On30 / Re: Missing Climax valve gear
March 28, 2016, 07:54:46 PM
The more I research Climax locos the more confused I get. And it is understandable. Records have been lost, designs were changed midstream, and building steam locos is now an ancient profession. I think we would be hard pressed to find someone who could guide us in building a climax today.seems we have lost our ability to build purely mechanical based machines. Everything today is sensors, relays, computers.  So my question is, how did we move and process ancient, colossal redwoods before all of today's technology. I would guess there are very few machines today that could move virgin redwood/Douglas fir size logs. Then we have to account for the mills that can no longer handle large diameter sawlogs..seems steam power was the only way to handle these giants

I did find the valve linkage on the Bmann model, which is located inside the frame mostly out of site. My research indicates it is based on construction #952. Foothillmodelworks.com has a multipage guide for redetailing this loco. Climax locomotives.com is also a great resource.

On30 / Missing Climax valve gear

Picked up the Bmann climax to run on my desk and noticed there is no valve gear. This is a pre dcc/sound unit,so is this how they came from the factory?

On30 / desk top auto reverse system
March 14, 2014, 04:21:05 PM
I would like to run one of the Bmann steam locos on my desk. I currently have their auto reverse  system to run n and HO. Do you think it will support an On30 steam loco?

N / Auto reverse control
February 08, 2014, 10:56:26 AM
Just set up my auto reverse set and the speed control still sends power to the loco even when the dial is turned completely counterclockwise to the off position. This doesn't seem right? Any suggestions?

HO / Re: 80Ton 3 Truck Shay 2?
March 11, 2012, 03:47:35 PM
Thanks for the info Tom. Does the lifetime warranty apply to the drivetrain? If so, wouldn't it be cheaper to pay the $25 charge and send it back to Bachmann for repair or replacement?

HO / 80Ton 3 Truck Shay 2?

Two questions on the shay. How do you remove the boiler in order to lubricate the armature shaft and the other internal shafts/gears?
Are all 6 axles supposed to be driven off the drive shaft? On my unit the front axle and the 2 axles under the coal bunker freeewheel. The corresponding bevel gear spins on the driveshaft. This unit has very little time on it. Wondering if I should send it back?

Just picked up the Bachmann North Pole & southern stockcar(2004) for reindeer transport. Were any other cars produced in this series?

N / Replacement Traction Tires
March 24, 2009, 11:20:00 PM
Forsome reason 1 traction on my Connie and Light Mountain cracked and broke apart. Does the parts dept have these in stock ? Also, just wondering how much work is involved in replacing them. Is this something the repair dept might tackle if I find it too involved? thanks
