Does anyone know where ( and possibly a rough cost ) for a motor for an old battery powered Big Hauler.

I took one apart for a friend who had left 6 D cell batteries in it for years.  The batteries leaked all over the battery
compartment and down into the motor and it seems like the motor is froze.  Also one of the capacitors near the motor
appear to have a crack in it.  Gears and the rest of the "under chassis" appears ok.

Don't know if this engine is repairable or is it now a display?
I called Bachmann parts and they have nothing for an R/C Hauler.  I checked E-Bay and found nothing.

Yeah battery leakage will kill most electronics. 

That is why we got to remember to pull the batteries out before 'resting' anything...

p.s. if unsuccessful bringing the unit back to life . . . please don't send to a landfill someone out there would likely  be able to extend its life as part of a static display,  even if heavily weathered resting on a overgrown siding   

I don't know that the old battery-powered Big Haulers are really worth resurrecting. You might be able to replace the motor, but the gears aren't the greatest (hence 5 "generations" of drives after this one), and also the rubber traction tires on the plastic drivers won't last very long, either.

But having said that, if you wanted to have a go at getting this one going again, I'd first keep an eye on ebay and swap meets for other 1st-generation big haulers that you can cannibalize for parts. I've seen the locos themselves (no tender) sitting on tables for very cheap ($25 or so.)

Or, you can avail yourself of one of the "Annie" chassis that Bachmann sells from their parts department. The downside is that it's not a "drop-in" replacement for the 1st-generation chassis. You're going to have to do some fiddling to get it to work. But you'll have the advantage of track power (if that's important), but also metal wheels and a proven drive, which will definitely be advantageous long term.

There's definitely something to be said for push toys. My son's got two locos I did that to that he'll push around the railroad all day long. He's also got a Piko 0-6-0 that I put battery R/C in that he'll run, but there's something those push trains he just gravitates towards. (Much to the chagrin of my plants...)

you would be better off just bidding on one on ebay for afew dollars and replace the whole engine. being the motor is froze up from the battery acid, i doubt that it is any good if you can possible turn the shaft get some contact cleaner from radio shack and spray it all over the inside and shaft. good luck if that doesnt work your best bet would put it on a display shelf or toss. those sets werent that exspensive and the motor alone if available probably would bemore than the set cost. they are ebay quite a bit.
