Hi folks I'm not what you would call a real railroader, I have always loved
model trains and have a Mantua boxed set with a Diesel engine that was
given to me as a gift 20 years ago. It comes out every Christmas and halls
two flat cars full of miniature wrapped presents and a caboose around the
tree it runs for 4 or 5 hours a day through December.

I have always wanted a more Christmassy looking steam engine for the set
so this year we came across a 4-4-0  Central Pacific "Jupiter" That I thought
fit the bill it was new and only $50 so we could afford it and I ordered it for
Christmas.

It got here late but we popped it on the track and ran it, it ran nice
and quiet for about an hour then it started getting louder and sounding
like it was grinding its self up. I had it at about half speed on flat track and it
eventually started stalling and the head light started flickering brighter and
dimmer. it wasn't hot or any thing like that and even after sitting for an hour
or two it still sounds bad. Have I killed this little engine or did I just get a bad
one? Is there any thing I can do besides Return it?
