What is the best way to bring wires thru your layout? The connections on the switches are wide and flat.

I used to cut and splice back to go through my plywood and foam board, (I still do that to extend the wiring, their just not long enough) but lately I take an 9/32 drill bit and drill three holes nest to each other and file out the inside to where if I need to take the turnout up the wire will slip right through.
