New track but off brand power supply

Hey,  I just bought all new track for an old train.  The track is all Bachmann brand.  I purchased the rerailer with power terminal.  I purchased the 10 foot power cord which had both male and female terminals.  I however do not have a Bachmann brand power supply or one that fits the female end of the power cord.  I have an old Tyco brand power supply that I do know works.  I snipped the female end off the power cord, exposed wire and wrapped them around the terminals on the Tyco power supply.  It does not work.  Any thoughts on this?  If I add a piece of Atlas track with an old switch and connect it to the Tyco power supply everything works fine.

I hope you can help,

Thanks
Rich

Is the cable connected to the rerailer properly?

I've seen it slide under or over the terminals on my layout before.

Or perhaps the rerailer is faulty, can you connect the wires directly to the rails?

ODucks

I believe it is connected properly.  It slides right in.  I actually bought a two pack of the rerailers with terminals and they are both on the track.  I tried them both and nothing.  I am not sure how I could connect the wires directly to the rails with the plug still attached.  hmmmm

Perhaps the problem is in the wires, do you have a continuity tester?

ODucks

I do and I can check that.  I wonder if the guy at the hobby store sold me the wrong product.  I have item no. 44428.  Pack of two.  The terminal outlets are there but I can see no sign of metal terminals inside.  Looking at the Bachmann website that item number doesn't say anything about connecting a power supply.  Item no. 44410 is a single pack and looks the same but the description on the Bachmann website describes connecting a power supply.  I think that might be the problem.

That is exactly your problem. 44428 are just rerailers. There are no power connections.  44410 has the power connections.

The 44428 is just a pair of rerailers. Even though it has the same openings as the 44410 terminal rerailer, they don't actually have any power connections.

You need either the 18" radius curved terminal rerailer (44402), or the 9" straight terminal rerailer (44410) to connect power to your layout.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

yep bought the correct piece today and all is good!  Thanks for the help everyone!
