As Christmas is Coming Closer, I am pulling out the Large scale track and once again my critical eye is wanting Passenger cars to pull behind My 1:20 Loco The big haulers are nice but they just are not right. I know lots of others want these. I know I can buy other manufactures rolling stock or kits but I hate to mix and match...

I thought they looked OK with the 4-4-0 and 2-6-0, but not the larger locos.  gj

NarrowMinded

they look ok long as I don't look at the door on the side of the combine thats what triggers the to small look for me, even behind the 2-6-0 I have.
Maybe thats a little picky but floating scale is really my only rivot counter trait.

Dear NM,
I agree with Glenn. I use Accucraft passenger cars with my K-27.
Have fun!

Dear Mr/Ms Bach-man, Let me cite myself: Now that Bachmann proved that they can build a decent car, even with some interior, I would suggest to consider one of these fine examples for the future products:

I believe many modellers who bought your early Moguls and Americans would be happy to buy some of these if you produce them to the same (or better) accuracy as the D&RGW caboose.
Best wishes from Tokyo, Zubi

Unfortunately large scale is just too small a market for one manufacturer to make everything you need. Mixing and matching is a way of life.

Actually, some cars did have doors looking a bit small for the rest of the car.
These look that way to me:

Ahh, going to take awhile to find where the other photos I saved came from.
Will be back.
This one might qualify

Full length standard gauge car, but it kind of illustrates the same idea

on30gn15,
Thanks for those link's they have given me the inspiration to modify my combines to eliminate the part that bugs me and throws the scale off for me, the short side door, of the three links I clicked all of them had a side door that extended above the top window line and into the fascia that the road name is painted on. the bachmann combine doors are at the same top level as the windows and do not extend into the fascia, but my saw will soon remedy that.

Thanks again

Alas, the 1:22.5 passenger equipment can't really be made to be accurate for 1:20.3 without major surgery. They're just too short.

The door on the 1:20.3 combine is just under 6' tall, which was the norm for narrow gauge passenger equipment. I'd suggest a ready supply of aspirin for your passengers as they will undoubtedly be hitting their heads on the door and roof of the smaller 1:22 equipment.

From the side, the difference in length is especially evident.

There's nothing wrong with mixing AMS's equipment with Bachmann. They're built to be very compatible. The couplers even work well together, which is not something that can be said terribly often.

I find it hard to believe that Bachmann got into the 1:20.3 market with locomotives and freight cars but they are NOT going to sell passenger cars.  If you are going to suggest using a different vendor for passenger cars, then why bother making the freight cars when yo can get them form other vendors also.  The same hold true for what locomotives Bachmann offers.( i.e. Bachmann will not make X loco becuase another vendor is prooducing somthing like it-for a lot more money)

People buy from Bachmann  for a reason, for me its good quality at a reasonable price with great service and warranty.  I'm sure Bachmann could produce 1:20.3 cars that are just as nice and cost a lot less than what the other guys are selling.  Doing so, would further increase interest in the 1:20.3 market, IMHO.  I am in deep with 1:22.5 equipment, and now with LGB gone and no new Big Hauler locomotive offerings I have to decide what direction I want to go in, if I want to stay in large scale narrow gauge.  I would love to stay where I am if Bachmann would offer some other Big Hauler locos.  But can't afford to move up to 1:20.3 if the passenger cars are going to be so expensive.

Sorry for the short rant-

NarrowMinded

Kevin,
thanks for posting the photos I have never seen the scales side by side like that, WOW what a difference.

CaseyJones,
I understand the rant, I feel the same, I would love to have some affordable matching (Bachmann) cars, to me it would help carry on the tradition of handing down trains, I would love to have a complete "BACHMANN" 1:20.3 set instead of a mix matched box full off "this and that's" I also think it would go along way to help keep bachmann on the minds of the next generation. My dad use to say he was "born a Ford boy and would die a Ford man", I like bachmann products much more then others, wouldn't it be nice if I could say I was born a "Bachmann boy and will die a bachmann man" Product loyalty is a key to longevity in any business, but that's hard to do when you have to buy other products to get the consist you like.

Dear All,
I'd love it too, but I'm just telling you the reality of the situation.
Have fun!

I don't believe that Bachmann has ever said they will never make 1:20.3 Passenger Cars, but just not now.  As the Bach-man always says, anticipate!

To all & Mr. Bach-man,

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not mad, angry or upset, and I would never Kill the messenger Mr Bach-Man,  I just know the power of the pen, Err Keyboard, if nobody ever expressed a wish hope or dream there wouldn't be as much cool stuff as there is for me to Drool over. I'm only in my mid 40's I think a have time to wait and see what will come, I will modify my passenger cars for now, But who knows what the next years will bring. Maybe I'll get my wish, maybe I wont, but if I don't make a wish it can never come true.

NM
Now wheres my passenger cars?  ;D
