hi there folks...

i got a hold of an old 44-ton switcher loco. this one is not the dcc ready nor the equipped one. anyone can tell me how to convert this thing to dcc. how do you isolate and wire the 2 motors??

thanks!

try to find a copy of model railroader magazine, january 2001. there is a complete article on this conversion. below is a link to: buy a back issue for a few dollars. click on purchase this issue.

i was looking though my files and found some stuff. the tcs decoder is good also.

below also shows the motor but is a different project but uses the two motor 44 ton.

i used a digitrax dz125 decoder in mine it and runs very well.
mine had a motor that would stop sometime but it was not burned out. one of the brushes would hang up a little. i fixed it myself.
be careful when you cut the clips free of the motor brushes.
a little rosin flux with 35 watt hot iron in and out with the soldering iron and solder.
i bought some #30 wire with nmra dcc colors from litchfield to prevent confusion.
A drop or two of labelle 102 oil on the gears.
