It was ebtbob who refered to push pins.

I use sub minature DPDT slide switches, mounted right next to the turnout like a ground throw, with a simple Z spring and a hole drilled in the switch slide handle. I do this because my wiring needs reqiure the switch contacts and they will fit between tracks with 2" track centers.

My remote turnouts (mainline only) are tortoise machines wired with flip/flop double pole push buttons and LED panel indicators. These are wired like a three way in a house to allow both local tower and master CTC control.

It has been my experiance that choke cable systems, just like electrically controled turnouts, can be very confusing in areas with lots of turnouts unless there is a diagram involved. Ground throws at the turnout eliminate the need for diagrams in places like yards.
