My question is will the large scale three truck shay tack a 5 foot diameter curve because i am about to buy one myself. :)

I got mine out--it will take the 4-foot diameter curves, just like the other geared lokies will.

Mine will run on the 4 ft, but it has problems if the is an 'S' curve.  If you want to do a passing siding you may want to do some test runs with the 5 ft to see what is needed.

Anything will have trouble on an "S" curve.  gj

Are you sure you people mean "diameter" and not "radius?"  I thought the minimum "radius" for the two-truck shay was 4 feet -- that would be an 8 foot diameter.
Just a thought.

No--the initial question used diameter--although in most cases we do use radius--but the custom in Large Scale has been to use  diameter since that's what the track manufacturers use---and yes--back to the first Ely Thomas  2-truck Shays --I used to run mine on the short radius curves at shows.    gj
