Can someone help? I would like to build a figure 8 using Bachmann 18 in. curve EZ track. How many curves, straight(what length)  and 90 degree crossing (which size) should I buy? Figure 8 should be as small as possible as my space is limited.

Using a 30 deg crossing, a figure eight requires 22 pieces of 18" radius track. That's 11 per side. 11 pieces is one piece shy of a complete circle. So a figure eight constructed this way would be slightly larger than two 36" circles side by side and would be the smallest configuration possible. Here's the 30 deg crossing:

I haven't found anything yet for using a 90 deg crossing but I know it requires some straight track pieces. Try googling "bachmann ez track figure 8" or something like that.

Martinoff,

How much length and width do you have?  I assume you want a level figure 8 with a crossing piece.

If your loco is too heavy to lift, you'd better be able to ride in, on or behind it.

This site might help you. They show a figure 8 with a 90 degree cross and a lot of other fun features.  May give you ideas for something a little more complex.
