Large Scale Thomas

Hi,
      I recently purchased a Large scale Thomas at the ECLSTS and I would like to install a DCC decoder in it so I can run him on my layout. My question is does anyone know what size decoder I would need because I can not find any information on the current draw. Also should I put the PCB on the motor side of the decoder or the track side? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
