Do you guys operate switches off of the same power source as your track? thanks

No, I use several separate power sources and wire them into the accessory/ alternating current terminals. If you use the same power source your train will slow down when you throw multiple switches or turn on lights and other accessories.

If you are into DCC, then using a digitrax ds64 is the way to go. It can power up to 8 turnouts, it can be used for either type of turnout control,ie, motor or soleniod, has the ability to select routes and can be controlled by your DCC throttle.

i usually powered my switches off one of my dc power packs. i used a capacitor discharge unit to prevent burnouts, and this also lessened the current draw when i threw switches.

my current layout is dcc with hand throw switches. if i did have power switches, i'd probably ise one of my old dc power supplies for them.

I recently converted my layout to DCC so I use the AC (Accessory) terminals from my no longer used analog power pack to run my switches.
