It never ceases to amaze me, that human beings are willing to stand so close to a moving train.  Perhaps we forget that some freight trains weigh as much as a small warship.  That's some serious force and momentum.

I always look both ways before crossing tracks, and I don't approach a passenger train until it's stopped.  One little oops is all it takes.

It amazes me how rare commonsense is among some parts of our species .  Most of these  people forget to engage their brains before leaving home .  John II.

I live I So California, I'm notbsure if it made national news or not but 4 people have been hit and killed by trains this month, three people decided to take a nap on the coastliner tracks two of the three were killed, they had been drinking, then a guy was hit and killed while walking on the riverside metrorail, the most recent was hit and killed crossing in front of one the light rail electric trains.

I just don't understand it and never will

I don't know if any of you guys have seen this or if it's been posted recently (I haven't been on in a while) but this is amazing also, how stupid people are and how they are willing to put their lives on the line just to get top a baseball game!

Wow. That video that Cody posted was funny (in a weird way). It was just funny seeing how stupid people can be. Now, it was only blocking the crossing for about 20 minutes. If it was an hour or more, well, that's a different story. It's better to keep all of your limbs (and possibly your life) than be  late to a Padres game. But there's an upside, they didn't have to wait in a line at the stadium  ;D

In the town just north of us, two boys were riding their bikes to school.  A train was stopped on the track.  They were going to be late for school so they went under the train.  The only thing is one of them got his bike cough and the train ran over it.  The story ran in the paper.  So what happened?  The train master bought him a new bike.

My parents would have killed me for that stunt.  And there'd be no new bike for a long while.  Today, though, I suppose the parents threatened to sue the railroad for not idiot proofing itself against their stupid kids.  It kind of ticks me off to read stuff like this.  Now I'm upset and it's all your fault!  I think I'll sue.

jettrainfan, out of curiosity, why did you not yell "Get your bike out of the way, stupid!" or something along those lines?

jettrainfan

Zelda, I was more focused on 4241 and figured the bbikers were gonna back up a bit when the train came closer. Some did but not like the past times. Plus the rangers were their but I'm geussing as soon as it passed the depot, they figured they heard. I'll keep that in mind next time.

There's a long bridge over the James River in my hometown, that has become a shortcut for the locals, no walkways, no safety spots. At least once a year, somebody gets caught on it when the NS trains come down the slope and onto the bridge. The last one was lucky, he was able to drop down onto the concrete supports, others....., well it's roughly 100ft down to the river, and the water is normally only 6-8 ft deep there.

D.. If you sue, I guess you will also need to sue Bachmann for allowing us to post.

As a long time conductor on our excursion train, we have someone trying to go around the crossing gates at least once a month.  The last was about 2-3 weeks ago.  Most make it as we on travel about 20 mph.  One didn't and we pushed him thru the crossing and into the bar ditch.  He then jumped out of the car and ran.  He didn't come back until the Police and wrecker were there towing his wreck away.  He had so many excuses like the gates weren't down ( they were torn off by his car), the bells weren't working (were still ringing when the Police got there), I didn't see it coming (and he is driving?).  Finally one of the Policemen said something to the effect, OK kid, you have told us a bunch of stories, now what the.........really happened?  He was watching a ball game on TV and was late for work and thought he could beat us around the gate.  Yeah, well he was lucky this time, he missed work all together but is still alive.

It amazes me how often people will gamble the rest of their life for a few minutes it's like wagering a billion dollars to win one.
