I had never thought about it before but you're right about the cartoons.  An intriguing idea.

Don't forget Murder on the Orient Express.  It's another British film (mainly, several countries cooperated in one of the earlier such efforts) but it's also one in which the  train is a character which is almost as important to the story as the plot.

I think you should investigate the difference between scale and gauge.   ;)  Report back what you find.   ;D

Hello, here's something will help. Scale means exactly what the name implies.  The model you're using or building is a "scaled down" replica of the life-size version.  Gauge, although sometimes spoken in the same breath as scale, is slightly different.  Gauge measures the width of the tracks on which your train runs.

Cheers!

Each individual has compelling reasons to love model railroading. But beneath these varied reasons are common threads that make it an awesome hobby everyone.

Those interested in HOe or Ho 2 1/2 or whatever you wish to call it should check out the ad on page 10 of the July Railroad Model Craftsman It looks like somebody has reissued some of the Minitrains line. The locomotive should be very popular.

I love tourist railroads, the more unusual the better :D I am reminded of (the now in peril) Stewartstown RR near York PA. We rode an NRHS excursion there with a tiny Plymouth on one end of the train and a GE 44 tonner on the other. Further on in the ride Plymouth was exchanged for a real EMC SC loco.

Here's a very nice tourist road using some AHM MinitrainS. The N scale Pine Creek Railroad in Allaire State Park in New Jersey.
