On the I/O port is a cad5 plug . Will a R12 plug work on the i/o port for the loconet on the digatrax system???.

No, it is only compatible with Bachmann products specifically designed for use with the E-Z Command DCC System; attempting to use other products will void the warranty.

There is a good chance it will "void" the system as well.
