This is a just for fun thread.

Who is saving up for a Steam loco?  'Fess up.
Everyone line  up and form a circle, then pair up in groups of three.

There are two that i am saving up for. Either a  BLI Heavy Mikado NYC
http://www.broadway-limited.com/images/view.aspx?productId=959

or the BLI Light Mikado UP
http://www.broadway-limited.com/images/view.aspx?productId=966

OR,,,If they EVER get them in and release them,,these were announced  in 2008,,and we are still waiting here in 2010 and counting,,,
a Roundhouse Pacific,NYC .  This would be sweet for my Spectrum NYC heavyweights.
http://www.roundhousetrains.com/Products/TechnicalSpecs.aspx?ProdID=RND85129
or the ATSF version Pacific

I am starting to migrate into On 30.

Converted a 2-6-0 to DCC and sound and it is fantastic.

So I am looking at potentially getting the DCC Sound on Board Baldwin 4-6-0 Steam Locomotive in On30.

Always on the look out for small HO Switch engines too!

Indeed I am!

Just finished the 0-6-0T.  So I'm starting a new piggy bank.

I really, really want to find a pair of undecorated  Spectrum 4-8-2 Mountains to detail and decorate for B&O (no surprise).  They're presently out of production, but I see plenty on the internet so I should be able to find a couple when I'm ready.

Or...

I haven't tried a BLI steamer yet.  Saw a Light Mikado running on the club layout the other day that piqued my interest.

Or...

I am intrigued with the new Spectrum 4-4-0s that are coming soon... Especially since there is a B&O paint scheme available.  Although, I think I have enough small steam to run my yard and mine.

Or...

I have considered the 2-6-6-2, but I'm afraid it will be too big for my layout.

Or...

A good quality Pacific would be great.

Then there's brass... Perhaps after my kids have gone to college, a perfect brass loco would be a nice treat.

Speaking of saving up for our desires, has anybody considered a trade?  I am no longer in love with my CSX equipment.  There is an LHS that takes used equipment.  I have considered taking it all in (there's a bunch of it) and working out a deal with the owner.

Has anyone ever taken equipment to a train show to try bartering for what you want? Can you do that?

Jonathan

I am saving up for a Sound decoder to put into my Bachmann Saddle tank...  Does that count? ;D

jonathan

HOTL,

At the risk of getting a little off topic, I hope you will post when you install the sound.  Where on earth will the speaker be mounted?  Great project!

Ok back on target.

I will be saving for the new 4-4-0 and for the three truck climax. Hopefully both with sound.

Jonathan,

I wouldn't worry about the 2-6-6-2 being too large; the prototype is comparable in overall size (and tractive effort) to a 2-8-4, and you have one of those.

Some pix you may find interesting for comparison purposes, in which 2-8-4s and 2-6-6-2s appear in the same photo:

Jon: You'll never be able to barter your CSX stuff away at a venue such as Timonium. I had very good luck with the Timonium "white elephant" table. It is run by the group that runs the show. You register your stuff and put it out on a table. When it's sold they get a cut - I believe it was 15 percent. I got a decent price for a bunch of On3 track and used switches. The money I made paid for the gasoline and tolls going to Maryland from Long Island.

Something to think about!

Jonathan,
Yes, I plan on taking pictures of this install.  it will be during the winter, tho..... :D

jonathan

HOTL,

Looking forward to your project.  Thanks ahead of time.

Woody,

I'll be travelling to Timonium for the October show.  Our club is doing a modular display.  I may bring a box of stuff.  I like this "white elephant" table you speak of.  Perhaps we'll get a chance to run into each other.  If the Redskins are doing well,  I'll be the one in a black 9-11 Redskins cap. :)

J3a,

You know, I wish B&O had a Berk.  I really like watching my Kanawha go around. Wouldn't break my heart if I picked up a second one to double head with the first.  The Connie is a little too fast, although I have mu'd them.  Don't want to wear them out fighting each other.
Wonder if the Spectrum Mountain is more the same speed as the Berk.

JBSmith,

Your thread has made me realize I need to moonlight so I can afford the infinite number of locos I want to see running on the layout.

Regards,

Jonathan

Reading the title got me thinking.  It sure would be nice if we Canadians had a snappy name like "greenbacks" for our one dollar bills.  But come to think of it, we don't have one dollar bills any more.  All we got is Loonies and Toonies.

My model railroad "save-for" of the moment is a replacement computer.  My old one has decided it no longer likes booting up, and all the begging, pleading, kicking and slamming will not make it change its mind.  Maybe I can convince my wife that she needs a new computer and I can grab her old Win98 job before she notices its gone.  Or maybe not.  The kids and I learned years ago that to Momma, we are all Windows.  That is to say she can see right through the lot of us.

Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

jonathan-

I'm pretty sure the B&O did have a Berk.  Don't you remember?  They had a sample loco from Baldwin, I think, or was it Alco or Lima?  I do know they used it for quite some time.  I'm not sure but they may have even had it lettered for the B&O.  Perhaps you recall.  And the number.  I can't clearly recall that, either.  Maybe it was 78, or 663, or 2299.  I'll bet you'll remember if you just imagine think about it.  Did it look like a Kanawa?  Maybe so.
