I bought a GP40 Deisel with DCC Item no. 60808 PRR road #2208. Now I want to buy a matching Loco to go with this one. I'll I see now is GP30 with the same no. 60808. Is this the same engine with the same motor and decoder? What is the difference between GP40 and GP30?

The GP30 with EMD's top of the line four axe road switcher in the early 1960's, it came after the GP20 and before the GP35.  The GP30 was EMD's first four axle road switcher with a pressurized engine compartment.  It featured a 2250 hp turbocharged V16 "567" engine.  The 567 means 567 cubic inches per cylinder.  Concurrent the the GP30, EMD continued to offer the GP18, which was replaced with the GP28 when the GP35 was catalogued.

The GP40 replaced the GP35 as EMD's top four axle road switcher in 1965, and was in turn replaced by the GP40-2 in 1972.  The 40 series introduced the new 645 series engine.  The turbocharged GP40 was rated at 3000 hp.  At the same time as the GP40 was introduced, the GP38 and GP39 were catalogued.  The GP38 has a supercharged 645 V16 rated at 2000 hp, and the GP39 a turbocharged 645 V12 rated at 2250 hp.

Except for the GP20 and GP30, must EMD GPxx four axle road switchers had a six axle SDxx counterpart.  The SD24 was the counterpart for both the GP20 and GP30.

Why do you think Bachmann Item No. 60808 is a GP 40?

Per the current online catalog and 2007 printed catalog,
Bachmann Item No. 60807 is EMD GP30 (DCC Equipped) Pennsylvania #2205
Bachmann Item No. 60808 is also an EMD GP30 (DCC Equipped) Pennsylvania but the road number is 2208

Both are Standard Product Line.

I made a mistake on this post. I just dug out the box it came in and it is marked on the end flap that it is a GP30. My old eyes must of been playing tricks on me. I bought it back in Jan. Thanks for all your help and enjoyed the info.
