I am looking for a rasp that works well with shaping foam, can anyone recommend a specific one.  Do i need a fine tooth rasp or are there other tools that are better suited for this type of forming of foam

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

a rotary rasp or a file rasp?

for roatary or file got to lowes or home depot

if u go with a rotary rasp make sure it's made for a hand drill not a crafting tool.

For rough shaping of foamboard we use a simple drywall rasp found at any hardware store.

This maybe what GN.2-6-8-0 is refering to and also what I have been using to shape my foam scenery.  I would think about any home improvement store would carry these.

My favorite foam tool is a piece of bandsaw blade about 1-1/2 feet long.  With one end in each hand, I can cut convex curves, concave curves and straight.  Bandsaw blades used by hand do not throw as much foam dust around as rasps.

For really fast action, a wire brush mounted on a body grinder can shred foam at a frightful rate but is best used outdoors (not an option in a Saskatchewan winter, but might be where you live.)

Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

Another good tool to use for zipping through foam is a old guitar string with a piece of dowel on each end for handles just pull it tight and start sawing, when you get the hang of it you can make curved cuts through thick areas to take the corners off rolling hills and such.

Just Remember Any of these tools should be used by an adult or UNDER adult supervision these can be dangerous and should be used with respect.

if you have the option use these outside or in an area that you can get dirty without to much hassle when it comes time to clean.

My best tools are a sharp serrated knife about 10 inches long, and an Ace hardware Pocket Plane.
