Newbie - Old EZ track question

Hello!

Just picked up a bunch of old track from online. We just bought a basic starter set a few months ago and wanted to expand. When connected, some of the old track will work and some won't. What I mean is, if I have an oval, the train ill run on the newer track (what came with the set), but will stop on the old pieces or slow to a crawl. Any ideas why?

Thank you Hunt. I will try the methods you suggested. I'll have to print this out. We did a light cleaning with the alcohol but nothing intensive. I hope we don't have to trash it all
