"My Christmas set the Yard Boss engine would not run.  The box had a flyer for 2007 products so presumably it's been sitting on a shelf for three years.  I followed directions from bobwrgt to glennsea and turned the motor over by hand and it worked OK, however, very slowly on the maximum setting on the speed controller.  The transformer provided is a Power Train 240V (Australian Standard) 12V output - 0.5 amps.

I have tried another transformer of 16V-0.8 amp and the Yard Boss engine runs brilliantly with good control.  I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on my actions in this regard.  The whole set incidentally is absolutely magic.  Looks great and beautifully engineered - a credit to Bachmann.  I look forward to a reply in due course.

Glad to hear things worked out good. After a few hours of run time the engine should be broken in and work even better. A very small amount of plastic compatible oil after break in if needed.
