i have a old tyme village freight train set  i want to add a passenger train car to this set will any H O PASSENGER TRAIN CAR work with this train set also  are the couplers on these train sets inter-changeable

Any HO passenger car will work if your curve radius is not too small and if the couplers are the same. A newer passenger car with an old loco will look weird, but it's your layout so go for it.
The older sets have horn hook couplers. Depends on how old your set is.

they make/made a passenger old time set. Google "bachmann old time coach" you should have no trouble finding one that is the correct vintage and even the right railroad.

Couplers are usually easy to change if you find something you like with the wrong type.
