I know that I could Google search for other forums, but that's not what I was aiming for. I want to get your input into which ones are better than others.

The things I look for in a good forum:
-Quantity of users/posts
-Quality of posts
-How 'global' it is

There are probably other criteria but I can't think of them right now.

It depends on what type of info you are looking for and what products you want to discuss.

Do you have a specific roadname that is your favorite?  I belong to a couple others that are specific to my era/prototype.

Search yahoo.groups.

As mentioned above there are other groups that are helpful for DCC, weathering, brass, and other brands of equipment.

As an aside, I find this group to be most polite and helpful for many topics, over and above Bachmann related equipment.

If you read the general rules message, we try not to bash other companies.  We keep it clean (there are young eyes reading these topics).  If you're looking to buy or sell, this is not the proper forum.  Although, there is the personal message tool, if you wish to do business with fellow members.  It works well.  Our hosts are very helpful when needed:  The Bach-Man, Yardmaster, 3rd Rail, etc.

Welcome!  I have learned a great deal here.  Everyone does their best to provide useful info.

My favorite one , and one that covers some of the finer details in modeling and a great group of members (no sniping, grumbling, back stabbing, etc.) and always helpful, is Railroad Line http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/active.asp.   Go to the home page for more info too.   This is the best resource I have found for help and advice on a variety of subjects.   This is also the home site of Troels Kirk's outstanding On30 Maine layout.

A second one I frequent is kit forums: http://kitforums.com/index.php?sid=f53ca82cf8c8152d87b26ac8f5c2a229 which has a bit more socializing than the other.
I also check into Free Rails too but this is not as active as the first tow sites. http://www.freerails.com/view_category.php?id=1

There are others which you will find as you get into the hobby and you need to pick the ones that suit your modeling needs.

Below is my favorite. It is run by Kalmbach that sells Model Railroader and Trains. I like it because you can discuss many other mrr companies.
The Bach Man does not like discussion of other companies products and reminds us every so often.

Below is a three year old one with a free monthly magazine you can download that sometimes include a video in the article. Scroll under, Navigation, Click, Recent Post. You can sign up and they will let you know when the next issue comes out. Usually the first work day of each month.

Yahoo Groups has a variety of very good manufacturer specific DCC products such as SoundTraxx, NCE, Digitrax, QSI, a Bachmann DCC Group also. There are more DCC Groups also.

I find this forum to be helpful and friendly and is independent.

www.ogaugerr.com
This forum has a large member base and is owned by O Gauge Railroading magazine.

Both of the above are for all types of O gauge trains.
