Santa's Express

I've been trying to decide on a couple options and I'm leaning towards the Santa's Express ON30 set. But being new to this I have no clue what I'm looking at. I have a few basic questions.

Does this set make sound?
Does this engine blow smoke/steam?
Is this going to look okay under a 12 foot tree or is it going to look too small?
