Hi all ...Just bought myself a new SD40-2 Diesel and was trying to figure out how to remove the shell without damaging same.
Anyone !
thanks.

I just looked at the diagram and it looks like four screws to remove. Maybe the couplers also. I suggest you buy or build the below item.

Are you sure you're looking at the right diagram ?
I can't see any 4 screws. :-\

Hello Dave

These screws will be visible from the bottom once you carefully remove the fuel tank.  This tank is clipped on so be very careful when removing it.  Once off you should see the screws in which to remove the shell.  I have this on my SD40 and I believe the SD40-2 is the same.

You probably know by now but the diagram shows two tabs on the fuel tank which means those tabs snap into the bottom of the loco. I thought that would be obvious to you.

Thanks a lot guys for your help.
I already had the tank off and it shows two screws.
I wasn't sure if something would fall off inside if I loosened them.
Sure wish the manufacturers would add this info. on the sheet.
Cheers.

same as rhe gp40 pop fuel tank off 2 diagonal screws remove, lift shell forward and taaaa da

Yeah, that's about it.
Note, you don't have to remove the couplers so that makes it a little easier.
So this Diesel has the full decoder board installed, I was hoping it would have
the plug in decoder as I need to get some for a couple of DCC ready engines I have.
I was thinking of the Bachmann # 44916. EZ decoder.
Does that sound OK.

Dave.
