are you trying to add these couplers to older cars with truck mounted couplers? if so, get some kadee draft gear boxes and mount them to the car floor. truck mounted couplers are nothing but trouble.

Jeff is exactly correct. Truck mounted couplers (Talgo trucks) aren't too bad when you are pulling trains but they are certain to derail
when backing up. Just cut the arm which holds the coupler box off as near to the truck bolster (cross piece) as you can. Then, since you
are changing couplers anyway, use the best: Kadees. And not only are they the best; they also offer the broadest selection of coupler
configurations so you can get the job done right. Good luck with your task. The effort will be well worthwhile.

Micro-Trains makes bolster pins in several diameters that may solve your problem. Their manufacturer number at Walthers is 489.

00312032 (old #1086) Standard M-T Bolster Pin (Fits about 80% of all cars)
00312030 (old #1034) Atlas Bolster Pin (Also fits a few other cars)
00312031 (old #1039) MDC Bolster Pin (Also fits some 'no name' cars)

If you order from Walthers, drop the leading zeros, e.g., 489-312032 for the standard pins.

The other option is to drill out the bolster hole with a #50 bit and use a flat head #2-56 screw to hold the truck in place. Tighten until wobble is gone, but the truck can rotate smoothly.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
