greetings folks! long time lurker, first time poster

So, to get to the point, I have in my hot little hands what appears to be a Bachmann N scale 0-6-0 locomotive. it came to me in a pile of free2me N scale stuff. the engine is missing its coal tender which appears to be critical to actually pulling a length of cars behind it.

research is kinda telling me that models past the early eighties required the tender to make the electrical connections to the track. this loco operates just fine with out it.

however, I would like to restore it as best as possible.  the Bachman parts page for this loco tells me that the shell for the tender is available, but the truck is back ordered. but I think the back ordered truck is "active", and I don't think I need any thing that fancy.

what do I need to order, in order to make a functional coal tender for this loco so it can pull cars? or, might someone have a stock tender from years gone by that they are willing to part with?
thank you everyone for your help in advance.

That all depends on how old the model is. Bachmann has an annoying habit of making upgrades to a model (often rather major ones) and keeping the same stock number for that model. If the locomotive has a plain black pin at the rear, it is an older version and does not require a tender with electrical pick-up (In fact a tender with pick-up would be incompatible) Check out Mark's review of the 0-6-0 http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/bach262.html
For everything you ever wanted to know about any n-scale loco ever, go here:

If you have one of the older 0-6-0 Bachmann will no longer have the proper tender for it; your best bet would be to look on eBay or at train shows.

thank you Franz!

I saw the first link you posted earlier which gave me the basic information I needed to make my first post..

it looks like I have the URSA 0-6-0 loco. and the coal tender has been lost to time.

the shows only come through town once a year here.. AFAIK, and that happened two weeks ago :D

I was just wondering if I have any kind of option to hobble something together for this old girl with existing available parts. the loco runs fine as is. A proper restro would of course be forthcoming.

Your best bet probably would be eBay, there must be thousands of those old tenders around. You could also ask at the N-Scale Community ( http://www.nscale.org/defaulteng.htm ), the people there are very helpful...
