I have several Bachmann F7A's & B's that are rather old. All the trucks have old lubricant in them (some have turned green). Can the trucks be broken down to remove the individual gears or is there some product I can use without damaging the plastic? I've tried dis washing liquid and that was not very successful.

Thanks

I use alcohol and an acid brush to remove grease.
I think Simple Green would work. I have used it a lot in degreasing stuff.
Test if first as I have not used it on model railroads. Might affect the paint and decals but I never get near the rest of a model when cleaning gear trains.
I use Simple Green in a plastic device for cleaning my bicycle chain so it might be ok for plastic models. Just the gear train.

Tried simple green however did not do any good removing old lube. Is there something else much better that won't dissolve plastics?

I have had my trucks disassembled on my f7a (had to replace the axle, bent it on a nasty fall)  If you have patience or the skills to take it apart and scrub it in some dish washing soap.
