Hi there. My 14 year old son is interested in getting a train set. There is a lady on craigslist selling a brand new still in the wrapper Bachmann 137 piece "Rail Blazer" set for 50.00. Is this a good price for a brand new train? Is this a good "starter" train for him? I think we want something in the HO scale. Any other recommendations? Thanks for any and all comments and help.

A web search shows that set is from 1989. So if truly it has never been used then it will be ok as a starter.
A newer Bachmann engine and set would be my preference though. Even though it will cost more, but it will have the latest up grades.
Be patient and I am sure other members will chime in with their experiences.

A 24 year old "set" is not a good buy unless you know how to fix parts that deteriorate with age.   Even in stroage, old plastic and rubber go bad.   Look for a new set.   Nothing worse than to have a Christmas gift that doesn't work.
