Did any ever notice that Bob, the dim witted next door neighbor on That 70s Show's hobby was model trains. On one of the shows he was feeling down so his daughter said " cheer up dad, I'll take you to the model train store, some of the little trees in Finciaottiville are looking a little drab" and that cheered him right up. If you go back to the shows of the 50s and 60s we were treated with respect but in more recent ones we seem to be portrayed as rather dimwitted, oh well, we know better.   P.M.

It has always intrigued me as to what actually prompts a stereotypification.  I remember shows like Amos and Andy.  As a kid, I laughed; then I discovered the implications.  I didn't see the humour after that.

The show I mentioned earlier also typified us particularly as a bunch of eccentric almost antisocial oddballs.

THe kicker to me was when I got out of the service in '68.  It seemed that every show on TV depicted the Vets as drug-addicted misfits, felons, and general lunatics.  I can't speak for others of my peer group, but I became rather angry that my country could do this to us vets; guys and women who gave so much.  Such, I guess, is the theme of making money in showbiz.  Remind me so I can actually laugh at Tim Moore (Kingfish).  Redeeming factor:  Tim shuffled-all the way to the bank.  You go, guy!

Back in the day, TV viewers would have associated toy train track with Lionel.  Getting hit with that could really do some damage!

Virginia Central;

I don't know about "O" scale, but on that show, I remember it being an HO scale layout.  I would tend to believe that if one were to use any type of flex track as a "weapon", he would be severely disadvantaged-sort of like bringing a knife to a gun battle...
