Can anyone tell me what kind of Locomotive this is (example 4-2-0, etc.) and maybe
point to an exploded view of parts. It is a HO scale loco made by Bachmann China.

I hope these pictures work here!  Picture 2 is the horrible white plastic traction
motor bushings. Anyone know if these are replaceable or should I throw this engine
in the trash?  Thanks for any and all leads.

That's a really early Bachmann USRA 0-6-0 switcher.  IMHO, it isn't worth the effort to fix.

Hey Thanks for the info on what it is. On the "not worth it" part, it is sort of is since it goes to a Christmas train set. I've got plenty of time but can't find any mention of these plastic bushings anywhere. If I could find those I would give them a try before the dumpster and/or ebay for the rest of it.

You can get an exploded view of the engine here - http://www.hoseeker.net/bachmann.html with parts numbers.

Note there are 3 different types of 0-6-0 engines offered. Spectrum, with a square tender and with a sloped tender.

Wow!  Thank you AGSB.  I also stopped into my local Hobby service store and they gave me the phone and email for Bachmann.

With the number you provided I'm going to send them an e-mail and ask if they still sell the wheel set assembly. If it doesn't
cost too much maybe I can save this one.  Thanks to you all, maybe I'll do an update if they reply
and or I'll break down and call them to get a definite answer.

From the looks of the first picture, someone put fiber "snow" batting too close to the tracks. You can see it sticking out of the running gear on the side of the loco. As it builds up, it puts a heavy strain on the motor and gear train. Both appear to be available in the "Order Parts" listing.

The wheel and gear train assembly is item: 2967A Drive Wheel Assembly (HO 0-6-0/2-6-0/2-6-2) Old Generation, Big Plastic Axle, Big Gear.
The motor is item: 3875 Motor  (HO 0-6-0/2-6-0/2-6-2)

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

This may be the correct part that you are seeking:
Drive Wheel Assembly (HO 0-6-0/2-6-0/2-6-2)

OLD GENERATION, BIG PLASTIC AXLE, BIG GEAR.
Available in black wheels and green wheels.
Please specify your choice of color in the comment box during checkout.
Model: 2976A
Shipping Weight: 0.042lbs

The following is the motor you will need:

Motor (HO 0-6-0/2-6-0/2-6-2)
$18.00
Model: PN-3875
Shipping Weight: 0.0685lbs

The cost of both parts you need and shipping will be about $45 roughly, you can easily buy a new locomotive or a donor locomotive for cheaper than the cost of both parts and shipping.
