Does anyone know the dimensions of the On30 Heisler?
I'm probably going to buy one for my new layout. I'm trying to work out the clearances I will need for bridges and tunnels.
I know the 2 truck Shay is 7L 1 7/8W 3H. The Climax is 7 1/8L 2W 3H. 8 wheel Bobber caboose is 5L 2W 3H.
I found those on an old site that was done before the Heisler came out.

Hello,

The Heisler is 5 7/8" L, 1 7/8" W and 2 7/8" H.

Thank you. I firgured it would pretty close to the Climax.

So... This is frustrating. I'm trying to figure which Heisler to buy. If Bachmann wanted to put white stripes on the wheels, why not put them on the one with the white pin stripes instead of the one without the pin stripes? I don't want the pin stripes but I don't want the white wheels either. Why not just a simple one colored one with no stripes? :(

If I were in your position I'd get the unlettered Heisler with pinstripes, then use Testors' Easy Lift-Off to remove the white paint/decals.

I've used that stuff on Bachmann's freight cars with great results, let it soak in for a while then rub with a Q-tip.

Try not to get any on the windows or railings though.

Would it be easier to get the one not pinstriped and remove the paint from the wheels?

He'd also have to remove the red paint from the windows.  Which might damage the glass.

Why remove the paint?  Can't you just use a black paint pen over the white and red?

The red windows are ok. I just wish they wouldn't have painted the white stripes on the wheels or along the side edges on 28804.

That may work, but I couldn't get it to look perfect when I tried it.

I think the metal parts are powder coated black and the plastic is cast in black, so removing the paint layer gives a uniform appearance without risking the layers beneath it.

If that's the case then a black paint pen may be ideal for hiding the side stripes, and if you get some on the wheel spokes and don't like it Bachmann sells replacement trucks without the white rims.  (I'd still specify that you don't want white-rimmed replacements just in case)
