I have a Acela Express set that uses 22 inch radius track, I want to get 2 remote switches. Do I need # 4 or # 6 switch?

Rule of Thumb: whenever possible, use the largest radius and largest frog number you can fit, as the larger it is the more reliably your equipment will operate through it and the better the equipment will look while doing so.

Thank you. Am a novice and was wondering where do I hook up the small piece of track that came with the switch

It is meant to go on the "divergent" or curved part of the switch/turnout.  Not that you can't use it anywhere, but that is where it is meant to be used.
