Newbie to wiring DC track.
Can you wire a AC light directly to a spur line if the power to the track is
only on when the track is in use. I'm trying to use the light as a reminder
to show if the tracks power is on or off.
If there is a better way please advise.

Yes you can run a wire from each rail to a light. If there power to the rails the light will be on.

Well it should last a long time. you could add a small resistor that would cut the amount of light, but make it last longer.
