I am wanting to convert my two big hauler loco's to battery RC.  My two locos are D&RGW and B&O.  B&O is from 2012 and D&RGW is about 2015.  I am needing to know all of the power specs for the motors in these locos so I will know what batteries are needed.  Please advise--thanks

Most folks use 14.8v Li-Ion batteries in their locos--especially those running narrow gauge steam. That's all I run in my locos, and in most cases I program my decoders to limit the top speed to keep things from running too fast. (My top speed is usually around 20 scale mph).

Morris,

I believe all the Big Hauler ten wheelers are furnished with motors in the 19-24 volt range. That said, Bachmann has a habit of gearing their locos a bit to fast for most folk's taste. As Kevin has stated, most narrow gauge (and the ten wheeler was patterned after the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina narrow gauge) never ran much over 25 - 30.  I believe the Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan, owner of the D&RGW K27 #464, has a placard on the backhead that reads 'Do not exceed 30 miles per hour.

That said, I agree with Kevin that a 14.8v Lithium battery pack would be a perfect fit for the Big Hauler locomotives. Limiting the top speed of the engine to something in the less than light speed of factory gearing.
