An 0-6-0 with snot, is going to have worse pick-up than they already do. Doing one axle takes away 33% of your pick-ups.

I have a very similar problem with the Thomas Emily engine pulling only her tender and 2 coaches. Going up a grade? Forget it. Also will 'jumps' the track or 'stall out' when going thru a #4 turnout.

Emily has only one powered axle, as such she's going to be a slippery engine, there really isn't much you can do about that. she's just not going to pull much even on the level. Even the real "singles" suffered from this problem, which is probably why designs like hers were quickly superceded by  locomotives with more drive wheels.
