Questions concerning "Gandy Dancer" Operating Christmas Hand Car, catalog item 46224:
1.  Will this item function on regular HO track?
2.  Do you offer bumpers separately, and if so, at what price?

Terry Toenges

The Gandy Dancer will run on any HO track.
Bachmann has bumpers. If you search around, you can probably find them cheaper than Bachmann's list price.

Are you wanting the Gandy Dancer to go back and forth? If that's the case, you will also need some sort of reverser.
Feel like a Mogul.

Bachmann sells HO bumpers in 2-packs, model numbers 44491 and 44591 depending on which roadbed you want to match.

They also sell auto-reversing track with gray roadbed:  The starter pack is model 44547 and additional track is 44548 and 44549.

Hunt

Reversing triggered by bumper strike was replaced in the Bachmann product many years ago. The bumper now is cosmetic in auto-reversing set products playing no part in reversing operation.  The auto-reversing electronics is available only in a set.

Actually, the bumpers are included in case you set up the reversing sections wrong at one end.  The sensor is never tripped and the train continues.

Ask me how I know.

No special track is needed if you can find a Miniatronics RU11 Reversing Unit set. It includes a transformer and sensors for each end.
HobbyLinc still has some in stock: https://www.hobbylinc.com/miniatronics-automatic-reversing-unit-model-railroad-electrical-accessory-ru11

Another option is the Circuitron AR-2 Automatic Reversing Unit w/Delay. This does not include the sensors for each end, and requires a power supply with a regulated output (Circuitron PS-12 is recommended). Available, along with the sensors and power supply, very a number of on line sources.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
