Just hearing about this now.  Wow.  Major railroad historic landmark.  Took 24 years to construct.  Compare to 6 for the Pacific Railroad. Think of all the woodburners that ran through it.  Wasn't it electrified at one point?  When will it reopen?

Not sure. You would have to Google it.
Pan Am Railway uses it.

I live about forty miles away in Western Mass. My former wife lived a few miles away from the tunnel. Some years ago we walked to one portal. She passed in 2001.
The ground around there is not the best for a tunnel if you read the history of the tunnel.  Fortunate a freight was not in the tunnel. I see Pan Am freight not far from me at times when out on my bicycle on a rail trail.
