DCC Turntable with JMRI layout

I am trying to setup the TT to work with the JMRI layout. I can control the TT as a locomotive without issues with the address of 3. But looking for anyone that made it work directly with the layout end.
I saw this thread, which talks about setting it to address 256 and so on. I've tried it and it did not work.
