I have an older 4-6-0 with factory sound.  Is there a way to increase the volume?

Hi,

The older sound boards did not have a volume control and were not adjustable.  I seem to remember that someone with electronic skills did do some modifications to improve the sound, but cant find it.  Anybody remember??
