If the pickups are tender only, it sounds like whoever did the repaint may have changed the wiring. I found the box with my Rivarossi locos in it and all of the older ones are wired loco picks up from one rail, tender picks up from the other rail. A couple of newer ones are wired so the loco picks up from both rails. None of them are tender only pickup.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

Trainman,
By operating steam I meant from the stack, lol.
Yeah, its a custom paint job, and they did a helluva good job on it.
I'll check the pickups again, but pretty sure they're messed up.

Len, Thanks for the info

Well, I got an update. And it's not good.

The pickups are fine and dandy. That's great. Real great.

The bad news is, the cab snapped off the boiler while the shell was off the chassis. I'm going to have to somehow glue it back together.

Other than that, I got a really nicely running steam chassis! haha.

It's just been a long week and little things like this just get magnified like none other. Took me 10 minutes to get it back on correctly and glued with liquid hobby glue.

If you can see the outline of the old lettering under the new paint, it would be better to strip the paint, remove the lettering and start over again. Repaint with gloss black so you don't have to add gloss coat to get your decals on right.
