I had an N scale Bachmann Spectrum 0 6 0 with tender that failed me. I could not get it going even after cleaning things and lubricant.
It turns out that the problem was that I had messed with the little aluminum pickup strips which are attached to the body block halves of the locomotive, they brush against the wheels and I guess because I was a novice I cut one of them off and the other got crumpled. Once I figured out this was the issue, I took all the parts I had sitting for months in a plastic case, and reassembled everything.
I was shocked when she began chugging along. Happy was an understatement.
