I have a santa fe ge dach locomotive, when i run it the front end make s a grinding noise what causes that.

Yampa Bob

Do you mean a "dash"?  What brand and stock number is it?  Do you mean the front drive wheels make the noise?

Need more input, but could be a dry axle, drive shaft, gear. Try running it in each direction for 15 minutes at varied speeds.  See if there is a speed where the sound is more pronounced.  Is the sound worse on a left curve or right curve.?

It's very difficult to give a short answer to such a short question.
I know what I wrote, I don't need a quote

Yes its a dash and the brand is Athearn #8731, the front gear wheels makes grinding noise. should use 3&1 oil to it

TexasChief

For Gods sake DON'T use 3in1 oil. Use Labelle 102 gear oil for the gears and Labelle 108 oil for the axle bearings.

Was it a kit? Try oiling it, if that don't work then athearn did a good job of making a prototype specific model.  ;D
