HistoricRail Catalog error

Dr EMD

Just received my catalog last week. As I was reading the material in the most expensive part of my house, I notice an error in one of the model they offer.

It's not one of those wheels off the track, but on page 36 on the SP 40' Express Car the "opening" door is hung upside down!

Chalk one up for non-modelers working at a railfan establishment. ::)

On my E-Z track steel alloy expander kit, one of the connections is wrong! They give use a guide in it saying to watch out for if the joiners go under the rail, on the picture, behind the ATSF caboose on the inside track has a joiner isn't connected but under the rail! :o You'll find all sorts of mistakes, I love to find them! ;D

Most items aren't even at the Historical Rails "office".  Items  are drop shipped from the supplier (as per the author I work with who sells through them).

yeah, an error like that has absolutely nothing to do with the "historic rail" catalog people..they didnt make the car, they didnt take the picture, they really have nothing to do with it at all, except they sell it through their catalog..

its probably just a model train car made in China..like everything else..
with a simple mistake...because yes its true, most of the people assembling and painting our models dont have the slightest clue about trains..

I have tried to buy from HistoricRail with little success. They don't list the manufacturer, which leads me to believe they are not "authorized" dealers, and you can't search their site by maker or category.

It's also interesting that on the same page, they offer the vintage mogul at a price of $159.  I got two sets from Caboose Hobbies during their Father's day sale at $121 each.  On page 16, they list the same set with different road names for $199.

When I first got their catalog, most items were discounted, but now it seems to be full retail price with occasional sale specials.

Strange - I just got their catalog and made some disparaging remarks about prices as my wife was looking through it - then looked and found some very nice prices.

Publishers should be a bit more careful... :o

I have purchased some hard to find railroad and traction books from Historic Rails at excellent prices. They are not really a model train dealer, more of a railroadiana seller.

I have found them to be hit and miss. I have gotten some things from them rapidly, yet I've now been waiting since, I think April, for a display case for my Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0.  :-\

I like the idea of a catalogue that combines model railroad and railfan items under one cover, but I'm thinking they must just be a middle man. They don't have a warehouse with this stuff sitting around waiting to sell. I'm guessing they don't order from a vendor until they receive an order from a consumer.  :-\

Actually, they do have a stock room of some sort.  When I called to inquire about the availability of a Roundhouse loco set, the lady went somewhere to retrieve the item and brought it to her desk to answer my questions.

I do however think their stock is somewhat limited in scope and quantity.

A lot ot the ads are not clear as to who many of the items are manufactured by.

You really have to know your model brands.

The company certainly is trying hard to meed all perceived needs of those drawn to model railroading or railroading in general.

Also on page 36, they labeled a mountain as a 4-4-8-2. This happens to be right uner the boxcar with the upside down door. Just thought that was funny
