I know every other topic is about DCC but I still just don't get it. I know what it does but I don't know the difference between any of the systems. I asked at an N scale club and they recommended the Digitrax starter sets. I have a 3x6 one loop layout with three turnouts. So which of the three starter sets is right for me? And how does it compare to Bachmann's Dynamis system? And will any engine with a decoder work with any system? And how does the system get set up and how does it work when its up running?

Thanks!

Most of the manufactures have the manuals for the systems they sell on line so you can get an idea of what they will do and will give you a chance to see if you can understand the information before you buy.

Besides Digitrax and Bachmann you should look at NCE, MRC and Lenz.

Don't overlook the EZ Command manual, very short learning curve.

This may be a dumb question but can you still run your dc turnouts with their button switches off of the dc power pack?

Yampa Bob

You can use the AC accessories terminals on your DC power pack to control the turnouts, wired through the "button" selector switches.

The old DC controller can still be very useful. There will be times when you need to power the track with DC power, for example to troubleshoot electrical problems or measure motor current draw with a conventional digital multimeter, and breaking in new DCC equipped locomotives before subjecting them to DCC power.

Ok thanks guys!
I'm looking for something that will work when I put the extension on my layout. Its going to have a yard and turntable. What will work for that? And you can control turnouts from the dcc remote or controller right?

Thanks!
