electric turnouts

hi all, new to the forums, and just starting my model train set, and am looking for some sort of wiring diagram for the most common issues. electric turnouts are the primary issue. if anyone has one please let me know.

Suggest you buy one or both of the following books by Kalmbach Publishing:

Basic Wiring for Model Railroaders by Rick Selby, second edition #12412. Recommended for beginners, with full color photographs.

Dear big,

Most electric turnouts have twin coil solenoids (linear motors).

t1  t2  t3
l    l     l
WWWW-----(throw rod)

   L    R

Momentarily energize t1 - t2, throw rod gets pulled to the left (inside the windings "W").

Momentarily energize t2 - t3, throw rod gets pulled to the right.

Leave them continuously energized, and you get something like this:

You said you bought "the" book, so I assume you bought the one by Rick Selby.  As you progress, Andy's book has more indepth detail with wiring schematics for just about every wiring situation you will encounter in model railroading.

I have both books, one compliments the other.
