i know that bachmann used to make one of these, but i can't find it now. i want to buy one to kitbash into a saddletank that looks different than a docksider, but i can't find a docksider. does anyone know where i can get one besides ebay (cant buy off of there) or searching for one at train expos?

skipgear

They haven't been produced in about 10 years as far as I know. Trainshows and Ebay is your only option. The worst part is there have been 3 versions produced. The second version seems to be the best. Look for the version that comes in a plastic flip top case and has brass gears. Even at that, the motor's in them stink. I have one right now that I am working on remotoring and it is proving to be very difficult.

Got a couple of these guys.  Re-motoring is a challenge, but it is the kind of locomotive my wife and I are looking for.  The info on the Docksider is here:

Nigel Lawton used to make a re-motor kit.  (They are for HOn30 but the original body still fits.  He's not making them now, but if enough people ask ...)

I looked everywhere for you and the only place you can get them is ebay, so if you don't want to use ebay then you are out of luck.
The other guy likely got his at least 10 years ago or got them from an expo.

Same here.  I found several on eBay.  Be careful and be patient.  I found a couple really good deals.  And there were a few I passed up.
