I just looked at the diagram for this loco and did not see any eight pin socket on the PC board.
Have you removed the shell yet?
If yours has an eight pin socket, get a DZ125PS that comes with a eight pin plug. This decoder is good for 1 amp and HO locos, plus it is quite small. Clip any capcitors on the present PC board. They will have a prefix like, C1, C2. Don't worry about what might look like two resistors. Those are inductors and will be labeled, L1, L2.
If you can do a little soldering, get the NCE Bach—DSL decoder PC board which are specifically designed for Bachmann diesels.
Both decoders have very good slow speed running characteristics.
All decoders come with instructions.
